Our Treatments

Invisalign
Invisalign is a great option for kids, teens, and adults—even for complex cases. Many patients come to us after being told it wasn’t possible, but we often make it work. These clear aligners are discreet, removable, and perfect for active lifestyles like sports or music. No food restrictions—just remove to eat and brush before putting them back in. With fewer emergencies and easier hygiene, Invisalign is a comfortable, convenient alternative to braces.

Braces
Braces are a trusted and effective option for straightening teeth in kids, teens, and adults. Colorful rubber bands let you personalize your look with favorite colors, school spirit, or team pride. Just be mindful of food restrictions to avoid breakage and keep your treatment on track.

Adult Treatment
At Dr. Wax Orthodontics, we make adult orthodontic treatment quick, easy, and affordable. Whether you’ve never had braces or stopped wearing your retainer, we’re here to help. Choose between braces or Invisalign and get the confident smile you deserve—it’s never too late to start!

Our Team
Meet Our Doctors
Our team is the best in the industry, we are a little biased, but it’s still true.

Dr. Nicole Wax
Dr. Wax, known as “your community orthodontist,” opened her first practice in Linden in 2014 to serve the area she grew up in and be close to family—later expanding to Highland and Flushing. Her passion for orthodontics began with her own braces journey, which boosted her confidence and inspired her career. Outside of the office she is all about her family: Oliver, Everly, and Ellis, (and gypsy and Aussie too).

Dr. Jason Scherer
Dr. Scherer grew up in a small town in Northeast Ohio, studied at Harvard, and graduated at the top of his dental class at the University of Michigan before completing his orthodontic residency at UNC. After six years of practicing in Ohio, he and his wife moved back to Michigan to be closer to family. Outside of work, he enjoys tennis, traveling, Michigan sports, and outdoor time with his wife Ellen and their two boys, Cameron and Jackson.

Dr. Kelly Pohlman
Dr. Pohlman’s passion for orthodontics began after needing braces herself as a teen, following a childhood tooth injury. After working as a general dentist for two years, she pursued orthodontics to make a lasting impact on her patients’ lives. In her free time, she enjoys soccer, hiking, traveling, and spending time with her Springer Spaniel, Charlie.
Check out our FAQ's
Are there things I can do at home to treat discomfort (pokey wire, broken brackets, mouth sores, etc.)?
Yes. You can apply orthodontic wax, clip the wire with wire cutters, or use over-the-counter pain relievers.
Do I need my brackets off for dental cleanings?
No. Your hygienist should be able to clean around the brackets and wires. If your dentist requests otherwise, please let us know, and we can accommodate.
How to clean aligners/retainers?
Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and scentless soap. You can also use denture cleaner or retainer cleaner.
What should I do if my retainers or aligners are not fitting properly?
Contact us right away. If needed, you can try moving forward or backward a tray in your series to see if those fit better.
Are there different retainer options?
Yes. We recommend clear retainers that cover all surfaces of each tooth. We offer a Wax Retainer Program to ensure your smile is maintained.
How much are retainer replacements?
With our affordable Wax Retainer Program, replacements can be as low as $25 each.
How long will retainers need to be worn?
Retainers should be worn full-time for the first year and then every night thereafter to prevent shifting.
How long do retainers last?
Retainers need to be replaced periodically, depending on factors like tooth eruption, care, grinding, or dental work.
Surgery has been recommended for me; where can I get more information?
Our office can provide you with a referral at your appointment.
Should I use a manual toothbrush or an electric toothbrush?
An electric toothbrush is best for keeping your teeth clean during orthodontic treatment.
Some of my children’s friends have already started treatment, but our orthodontist states our child should wait. Why is there a difference in treatment?
All children should be seen by an orthodontic specialist starting at age 7 to assess growth and development for long-term planning.
Can you get braces on only the top or bottom?
Yes. At your consultation, we will discuss your treatment preferences and present the best options available.
What do I do if I misplace an aligner?
If you lose an aligner, change to the next one in your series and wear it for extra time. If none fit, contact the office immediately.
What should I do if I lose my elastics?
Stop by the office to get more elastics or order them online if needed.
Do you accept my insurance?
We work with all insurance companies that provide orthodontic benefits and will verify coverage at your consultation.
What happens if retainers stop fitting during the eruption of permanent teeth?
Retainers will need to be adjusted or remade to fit around new teeth. Contact us if your retainer isn’t fitting properly.
What do I do if a bracket (braces) or attachment (aligners) comes off?
Contact us so we can guide you on the next steps.
Why do I need elastics; is the bite that important?
Elastics are used to correct the bite, which is crucial for treatment results.
What are bite turbos and why do I need them?
Bite turbos are temporary pads placed on your teeth to prevent biting off brackets or to help achieve certain movements.
Why do I need attachments with Invisalign?
Attachments are necessary to achieve the planned movements in your aligners for optimal results.
When will I be ready for phase 2?
After completing Phase 1, we’ll monitor your growth and development to determine the appropriate time for Phase 2.
What foods can I eat with braces?
You can enjoy many foods while in braces; our team will review exceptions when you start treatment.
Why do braces come off sometimes?
Braces can come off due to various reasons like biting forces, certain foods, or grinding. If a bracket comes off, contact us for guidance.
